The Churchill County Sheriff's Office's mission is to provide effective and efficient law enforcement and public safety services to the residents and visitors of Churchill County. We strive to accomplish this mission in a fair and consistent manner with a professional and highly trained staff.

The Churchill County Sheriffs Office K9 program utilizes specially trained dogs in various roles, such as detection and search and rescue.  This program enhances law enforcement’s capabilities, offering  valuable assistance in locating illicit narcotics and missing or endangered persons. The K-9 units consist of handlers and their canine partner often working together for years, building a strong bond that enhances effectiveness. Training involves socialization, obedience, and specialized skills, ensuring the dogs are capable and reliable in high stress environments.

CHURCHILL SHERIFF'S
OFFICE

Sheriff Richard C. Hickox

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness to announce the death of Sheriff Richard C. Hickox Jr., who died on April 11, 2026, due to complications from cancer. Sheriff Richard C. Hickox Jr. served the people of Churchill County for over 28 years.  He started as a Detention Deputy, working up the ranks to Patrol Deputy, Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, Investigative Sergeant, Captain, and ultimately as our Sheriff.  He was hardworking and dedicated, not only in community organizations and his church, but also served as a board member of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association, where he recently completed his term as President of the organization. He will be missed not only by his immediate family but also by his brothers and sisters in blue, whom he has dedicated his life to serving for so many years.
